Cost of college went down for all students at the University of Louisiana at Monroe

In-state tuition and fees fell 1.1 percent for 2018-19 at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Louisiana residents paid $8,554 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $84 more than the $8,470 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 141.5 percent more than residents this year, or $20,654. Their price tag grew 0.4 percent from $20,570 in 2017-18.

About 89 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Louisiana residents. And about 7 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 97 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,250 students received grants or scholarships totaling $15.4 million and 654 students took out student loans totaling more than $3.9 million.

Including all undergraduates (9,291), 4,899 students used grants or scholarships totaling $51.8 million, and 3,156 students took out $22.1 million in federal student loans.
