Jimmy Tyson, a candidate for Ouachita Parish District B Police Juror, has stated that a key reason he has sought the position is to address the safety concerns of Ouachita residents who reside outside of the Parish's cities and towns. A recent poll of Louisiana voters showed that crime was one of the top two issues in Louisianans' minds.

According to a video interview with KNOE News, Tyson plans to address concerns from the rural parts of his district, particularly focusing on ambulance service and policing. He intends to seek federal and state grants to accommodate these residents and meet their needs.

An August 2023 survey of Louisiana likely voters, released by KTBS 3, found that crime was one of the top two issues they were concerned about. Tyson's interest in expanding police protection throughout the Parish could help address some of voters' key concerns.

Tyson, a Republican, will face incumbent Police Juror Jack Clampit during the October 14th election. All six of the parish's police juror seats will be up for election. Each elected police juror will serve a four-year term, according to the Secretary of State's office.

The Ouachita Parish Police Jury board acts as both a legislative and administrative body. They are responsible for enacting ordinances, setting policy, preparing the budget, and deciding how money is spent, among other duties, as stated on the Ouachita Parish's website.

The upcoming election will be a rematch between Tyson and Clampit. In the previous cycle, Tyson was defeated by the incumbent Clampit by just 511 votes.
