Lower student enrollment in Richland Parish School District schools, following the state’s numbers

The only school district in Richland Parish suffered declining enrollment in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

There were 2,705 students in the halls of Richland Parish School District schools, 0.7% lower than the year before.

Enrollment in Richland Parish was steady compared to the state’s trend of decreasing enrollment.

Out of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 53.2% of them were boys, and 46.8% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were Black or African American, representing 54.8% of the Richland Parish School Districts total enrollment.

Richland Parish School District has a main office in Rayville and is the only school district within Richland Parish.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 18 students in Louisiana, which is worse than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students.

Only 22% of Louisiana’s teachers are Black or Latino, compared to about 48% of the state's K–12 students who identify as either race.
