ULM baseball’s recent winning streak ended with a 15-5 loss to Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday evening. The game, played at Lou St. Amant Field in Monroe, was cut short after the Lions scored eight runs in the top of the eighth inning.
Southeastern Louisiana began scoring early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single and another run batted in by Connor Cuff. ULM responded in the bottom of the first when Bryce Blaser and Kade Dupont singled, followed by Jake Haggard grounding out to bring home Blaser.
The Lions extended their lead in the second and third innings through a series of hits and a fielding error, making it 5-1. ULM narrowed the gap after Blaser doubled and Dayne Wray hit an RBI single. However, home runs from Giovanni Licciardi and Brody Capps increased SLU’s advantage to five runs.
Davis Mauzy brought ULM closer with his first home run of the season—a three-run shot that made it 7-5 after four innings. Relief pitcher Cash Dabbs held SLU scoreless for two innings, but ULM could not capitalize offensively.
After both teams went scoreless for three consecutive innings, SLU broke open the game in the eighth with a sacrifice fly, wild pitch, bases-loaded walk, and a bases-clearing double before Blaise Priester hit a two-run homer. The ten-run margin triggered an early end to the contest.
Mauzy finished with multiple RBIs while Blaser led ULM hitters with three hits. Haggard and Wray also contributed RBIs.
ULM will try to split the midweek series against Southeastern Louisiana at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Lou St. Amant Field.
