The University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) track and field team opened its outdoor season on March 14 with several first-place finishes at the McNeese Cowboy Relays in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
The meet marked the start of the Warhawks’ outdoor campaign, giving athletes an opportunity to compete early in the season and set performance benchmarks. Strong showings in both men’s and women’s events highlighted the team’s depth across disciplines.
Santana Richardson led the men’s team by winning the 100-meter sprint with a time of 10.59 seconds. Maya Nobes took first place in the women’s 1500 meters, finishing in 4:42.58, while Sydney Lake secured victory in the hammer throw with a distance of 59.59 meters. Other notable performances included Jaden Youngblood’s second-place finish in the men’s 400-meter hurdles and a silver medal for the men’s 4×800-meter relay team consisting of Isaac Cupp, Kilian Mika, Raymond Gomez, and River Richard.
On the women’s side, Alexa Tine finished second in the 3000 meters, Courtney Smith was runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles, and Monika Ortiz placed second in the 400-meter hurdles. The women’s relay teams also performed well, earning second place in both the 4×400- and 4×800-meter relays.
Additional top-three finishes came from Keniya Simpson (third place, women’s 100 meters), Kalli Husband (third place, women’s 100-meter hurdles), Courtney Smith (third place, women’s 400-meter hurdles), Macy Lee Hale (third place, women’s discus throw), Raymond Gomez (third place, men’s 1500 meters), and Ty Lovas (third place, men’s pole vault).
The Warhawks are scheduled to compete next at the LSU Opener on Saturday, March 21 in Baton Rouge.
