ULM track and field is set to compete in two meets from April 16 through April 18, with athletes participating at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on Thursday and Friday, followed by the Jim Mize Relays at Louisiana Tech in Ruston on Saturday.
The upcoming events follow a strong showing by the Warhawks at the Texas A&M 44 Farms Team Invitational last weekend. Stafon Roach led the team with a first-place finish in the triple jump, achieving a mark of 15.82 meters. Raquel Gomes secured second place in the discus throw with a distance of 52.68 meters. Both athletes received Sun Belt weekly field honors for their performances. Francisco Calhau and Sydney Lake also earned podium finishes in the hammer throw event.
The Warhawks’ hammer throw group has demonstrated consistent results during the outdoor season. Francisco Calhau has reached the podium in all four meets he entered this year, including two wins. His career-best distance of 65.92 meters leads the Sun Belt Conference and ranks second in the South-Central Region. Benedikt Schweizer holds top marks as well, with his best result of 64.88 meters placing him among conference leaders. On the women’s side, Sydney Lake has claimed three wins this season and posted a personal best of 59.59 meters.
Stafon Roach made his outdoor debut for this season last weekend after earning All-American honors last year and winning an indoor championship earlier this year. His recent triple jump performance not only secured first place but also ranks him first within his conference, second regionally, and eighth nationally.
Raquel Gomes’s discus performance was notable both within her conference—where she now holds one of its top marks—and regionally as well; her recognition as Sun Belt Women’s Field Athlete of the Week marks a milestone for ULM since no Warhawk had received that honor since 2024.
Looking ahead, ULM will remain close to home when they travel to Baton Rouge for competition at LSU Alumni Gold on April 25.
