The University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) softball team is set to play Grambling State on Wednesday, February 25. The game will be held at Grambling State, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. While the match will not be streamed, live statistics will be available through ulmwarhawks.com/stats.

ULM enters the contest with a 7-4 record and is currently on a five-game winning streak after remaining undefeated during the Best on the Bayou Tournament. In that tournament, ULM defeated Lamar, UNI, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Warhawks now hold a record of 132-63-2 in tournaments they have hosted and are riding a 19-game home tournament win streak dating back to 2024.

The upcoming matchup marks the third consecutive year that ULM faces Grambling State and their 38th meeting overall. ULM has won the last 22 games against Grambling, a streak that began in 2004. When playing at Grambling, ULM has a record of 7-2-1. Last season’s meeting resulted in a 7-0 shutout for ULM, highlighted by pitchers Victoria Abrams and Dakota Lake combining for a no-hitter.

Grambling State holds a current record of 6-7 this season. Wins have come against teams including Alabama A&M and Mississippi Valley State. Kamryn Broussard leads the Tigers with a .457 batting average and six doubles among her 16 hits. Katelynn Walls leads in stolen bases with nine so far this season, while pitcher Jaidan Richard has posted an ERA of 5.25 over 29.1 innings pitched. The Tigers are under new leadership with first-year head coach D’Maria Matthews.

During Saturday’s game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, three home runs were hit by ULM players Maryssa Zenzen (inside-the-park), Morgan Brown, and Dally Engle in one inning—a feat achieved by only two mid-major programs this season.

Over the past weekend, ULM went undefeated in five games as part of the Best on the Bayou Tournament against UNI, Lamar, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Notable performances included Carys Platt’s RBI single and Maddie Nichols’ eleven strikeouts in a close win over UNI; Skylar Waggoner’s complete game shutout with thirteen strikeouts versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff; multiple RBIs from Meagan Brown, Hollie Thomas, Cheyenne Jenkins against Lamar; and an eight-run shutout led by Nichols’ four strikeouts against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Twins Meagan Brown and Morgan Brown continue to play key roles for ULM as one of ten sets of twins on NCAA softball teams nationwide. Last season they hit back-to-back home runs twice and both earned spots on both the All-Sun Belt First Team and Preseason All-Sun Belt team.

The current roster also includes three local players: Maddie Nichols from West Monroe High School; Elle Carter from Neville High School—who is also the eighth member of her family to attend ULM—and freshman Abagail Creighton from St. Frederick High School.

Looking ahead, ULM will participate in another tournament next weekend at Ole Miss as part of the Ole Miss Classic where they are set to face SEC opponent Ole Miss as well as Jacksonville State between February 27 and March 1.
