As a working mother, Representative Julia Letlow emphasizes the importance of empowering families to ensure thriving communities and future generations. She supports President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which aims to make starting and raising a family more affordable.
The proposed legislation increases the child tax credit from $2,000 to $2,500 annually for children under 17. Without this change, the credit would decrease to $1,000 per child by year-end. The increased credit is designed to benefit middle-class families most in need of support.
Additionally, the bill expands paid leave opportunities for new parents by incentivizing small businesses to offer paid family and medical leave through tax benefits. This approach aims to encourage family growth while helping employers retain valuable staff.
Under the bill, newborns will receive investment accounts with an initial $1,000 contribution. Parents can contribute up to $5,000 annually until their child turns 18. These funds can later be used for education or other significant expenses.
The legislation also strengthens the federal adoption tax credit and increases the standard deduction for families by $2,000. Without action by 2025’s end, current deductions would be halved.
Service workers stand to gain from eliminated taxes on tips, while emergency responders could benefit from untaxed overtime pay. A waiter might see an additional $1,700 annually due to these changes; similarly, law enforcement officers could gain around $1,750 more from untaxed overtime work.
Rep. Letlow expresses hope that Congress will pass this pro-family tax relief bill quickly so it can be signed into law by President Trump.
