Toni Bacon, a candidate for Ouachita Parish District A Police Juror, recently pledged to look for ways to increase Parish revenue without resorting to raising taxes. Bacon's comments are in line with the sentiments of Louisiana voters, as a recent poll showed that Louisianans favored cutting taxes and regulations as a method to improve the business climate.
Bacon, who has worked in banking and development in the community for over 29 years, believes that her time as a commercial lender gives her unique insight into what helps businesses and the local economy grow and develop. She stated, "I look at financials all the time, pnls and balance sheets work together to give us more of a complete picture of the true health of any business."
If elected, Bacon plans to work closely with the treasurer to understand the budget and evaluate contracts to ensure that the parish is getting the best value and quality. Additionally, she aims to increase revenues through avenues other than raising taxes. Bacon expressed her intent to collaborate with local mayors to apply for federal grants for the parish.
During a "Stumping on the Bayou" campaign event for Republican candidates, Bacon emphasized her financial services background and highlighted her two primary focuses as a police juror: support for local businesses and fiscally conservative policies. Her dedication to these principles has earned her the endorsement of the Ouachita Republican Party and RED PAC, a group that supports conservative candidates at the local level.
A survey conducted in August 2023 asked Louisiana likely voters for their opinions on how best to grow the economy. The majority of respondents, 41 percent, indicated that improving the business climate by cutting taxes and reducing regulations was key. This aligns with Bacon's approach to increasing revenue without burdening taxpayers.
The elections for various positions, including all six district seats on the Police Jury Board, will be held in Ouachita Parish on Saturday, October 14th. Bacon, running as a Republican, is vying for the District A seat. If elected, she will serve on the board for a four-year term before facing re-election.
Toni Bacon's commitment to finding alternative revenue sources and supporting local businesses has resonated with voters in Ouachita Parish who are eager for fiscal responsibility and economic growth.
