The only school district in Tensas Parish suffered declining enrollment in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

There were 330 students in the halls of Tensas Parish School District schools, 4.6% lower than the year before.

Enrollment in Tensas Parish was steady compared to the state’s trend of decreasing enrollment.

Out of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 52.7% of them were boys, and 47.3% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were Black or African American, representing 87.3% of the Tensas Parish School Districts total enrollment.

Tensas Parish School District has a main office in St. Joseph and is the only school district within Tensas Parish.

The majority of Louisiana students were either white (48%) or Black (37%) in the 2021-22 school year.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 18 students in Louisiana, which is worse than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students.
