Morehouse Parish School District schools in Morehouse Parish experienced fall in student enrollment for 2021-22 school year

The only school district in Morehouse Parish suffered declining enrollment in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

There were 3,255 students in the halls of Morehouse Parish School District schools, 2.4% lower than the year before.

Enrollment in Morehouse Parish was steady compared to the state’s trend of decreasing enrollment.

Out of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 50.8% of them were boys, and 49.2% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were Black or African American, representing 64.8% of the Morehouse Parish School Districts total enrollment.

Morehouse Parish School District has a main office in Bastrop and is the only school district within Morehouse Parish.

Only 22% of Louisiana’s teachers are Black or Latino, compared to about 48% of the state's K–12 students who identify as either race.

The majority of Louisiana students were either white (48%) or Black (37%) in the 2021-22 school year.
