Congresswoman Julia Letlow issued a statement following the congressional approval of President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill. The legislation, which Letlow supports, includes measures aimed at providing tax relief for various groups and reauthorizing agricultural policies.

“With passage of President Trump’s pro-family agenda, we have provided tax relief for the middle class and saved every American from a tax increase. Our working families and seniors will see new relief through a bigger child tax credit, eliminating taxes on tips, and a tax cut for retirees on Social Security. Our farmers will have much-needed certainty with the reauthorization of key Farm Bill policies, updated reference prices for commodities, and lower taxes. Now that we have extended the Trump Tax Cuts and supported Louisiana’s families and our economy, I will continue to advocate for my district as the Big Beautiful Bill is implemented,” Letlow said.

Key provisions in the bill include permanent extension of the 2017 Trump Tax Cuts to prevent an average $1,700 tax hike per family. The legislation also eliminates taxes on tips up to $25,000 annually and overtime pay up to $12,500 annually. Middle class families benefit from a permanently doubled standard deduction plus an additional $1,500 deduction.

The child tax credit is also doubled permanently with an extra $400 available for a family of four. Retirees on Social Security are granted further relief through an added $6,000 tax deduction targeted at low- and middle-income seniors. Incentives are strengthened for paid leave and child care under existing credits and flexible spending arrangements.

Small businesses—including family-owned farms—will continue to receive a 20% deduction under this bill. Reference prices for farm commodities are updated as part of broader support for agriculture. The bill also allocates new resources to enhance border security enforcement efforts by the Trump Administration.

Julia Letlow has represented Louisiana’s 5th district in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Ralph Abraham (https://letlow.house.gov/about).
