ULM women’s golfer Johanna Sjursen qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open, the university announced on May 6, after finishing first at the Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta, Georgia.

Sjursen earned medalist honors with a total score of 145 (+1) over two rounds and secured her spot alongside Jasmine Suwannapura. She made five birdies across 36 holes to qualify for her first major tournament.

“I am so excited to represent Monroe at the U.S. Open. I’m so thankful for the experience I have gotten at ULM and being able to play for Coach Pollock has been the best thing that could have happened to me,” said Sjursen. “She has truly prepared me for the next step I’m about to take in my career to turn pro. I have been doing my best the last couple weeks to focus on my process and stay present in difficult situations. Going to the U.S. Open is a dream come true. I’m so excited to test my game against the best players in the world. I will do my best and am just so thankful for the opportunity to do something special.”

Head coach Rachel Pollock said, “What an incredible day for Johanna and for ULM Golf! Watching her grow both as a golfer and a person over the last four years has been nothing short of incredible. She continues to pave the way for future players to come. To have her represent ULM women’s golf at a major championship feels like a dream. She is so deserving of this opportunity and I can’t wait to cheer her on at the biggest stage of women’s golf.”

The upcoming U.S. Women’s Open will be held at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California from June 4 through June 7, presented by Ally Financial, where Sjursen will compete with 155 other participants in her first major championship.
