FOIA Request to University of Louisiana-Monroe regarding recent course syllabi on August 6, 2025.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted by NE Louisiana News to the University of Louisiana-Monroe on August 6, 2025. The request seeks access to a comprehensive list of course syllabi for all undergraduate and graduate courses offered during the Spring 2025 academic semester. This includes syllabi from all departments, schools, and colleges at the university, regardless of whether the courses were conducted in-person, online, or in hybrid formats.

The request also asks for relevant metadata associated with each course syllabus. This metadata includes the course title and number, instructor name, department or academic unit, and the course delivery format (online/in-person/hybrid). The information is requested under the Louisiana Public Records Act § 44:1 et seq., with a preference for receiving it in electronic format.

As a member of the media organization NE Louisiana News, which is committed to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we emphasize that access to public records is crucial for holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency. We have also requested a fee waiver based on our role as media professionals disseminating information to the public.

Additionally, we are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting news media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. More information about this coalition can be found on their website: https://stopsecrecy.org/about/.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
