Cypress at Lake Providence earned an overall 1 out of 5 rating in the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows. That figure trails the statewide average of 2.5 for Louisiana nursing facilities.
The center had 108 beds available, 13 fewer than the Louisiana average for the same timeframe. On average, it provided care for 70.2 residents during the period.
As of the first quarter of 2026, Cypress at Lake Providence had incurred $74,456 in fines over three separate incidents and received four penalties.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates show that the nation’s population of older adults is rising while younger age groups shrink. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans 65 and older increased by 13%, as the number under 18 fell by 1.7%. Across the past 100 years, the older population has seen steady growth, expanding from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.
A 2021 study estimates that nearly half of that demographic—around 28 million Americans—may need long-term services and supports. The report indicates over one-third might eventually require care in a nursing facility.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
